Personal Relationships

I met my husband in college right after high school and knew right away that he was the one.  He laughs when he tells people the story - we met in Biology class, I sat in the back row, he would walk by and flick my ponytail, he asked if he could borrow my notes and then asked me out on our first date.   During our lunch date he asked me my birthday.   To our amazement, we have the same exact birthday (day, month and year!).   This began a wonderful relationship, two amazing children and memories galore.

I tell this fun story of how we met because we do have so many things in common, but we also have many things that are polar opposite.   I love to teach and communicate with others.  It is my passion.  My husband is an attorney and loves the details and processes.   I have learned throughout my communication courses, and especially in my Business and Professional Communication class, that everyone has a different style of communicating and whether it is verbal or nonverbal, it is important to listen and respond effectively.   Though we might not always agree with each other, I know that I can use different communication styles and approaches to help build better understanding.
